Seen from the side, the recession may not be so dramatic, but there is still perspective at work. Bands of cloud are very much narrower and closer together than they are overhead. Again this principle applies in reverse below the horizon.

PERSPECTIVE SKETCHES

A very basic grasp of perspective should be enough to bring order to the landscape and, through the process of drawing varied scenes, the principles should soon become instinctive. Sketching these two very different scenes involved little more than a casual reflection on the perspective at work. In each case, I was more occupied with textures, lighting and energetic mark making.
